RIBBONS FALL TO 6-3 AFTER LOSS TO MENASHA

GREEN BAY, Wis. (Indiana Schilz) – The Green Bay Blue Ribbons got out to an early lead but faltered after allowing 11 hits to the undefeated Menasha Macs, losing by a score of 9-5.

A hot June day at Koslo Park in Menasha saw many fans gather for the Northeast Wisconsin Baseball League matchup against two of the top teams.

Green Bay jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after capitalizing on some early walks in the top of the first inning. Menasha tied the game in the bottom half with a sacrifice fly.

The Blue Ribbons extended its lead in the top of the second, again capitalizing on sloppy pitching from Menasha.

But it was a big bottom of the second for the Macs, scoring four runs to take a 5-3 lead. Menasha scored three more in the bottom of the fourth to blow the game open 8-3.

However, the Blue Ribbons clawed away at the deficit after third baseman Jake Petasek’s two-RBI single, making it 8-5.

That’d be the closest Green Bay would get as Menasha added another run in the bottom of the seventh en route to their fourth-straight victory, 9-5.

The Blue Ribbons were on base a lot, but could not get the offense going, only earning four hits.

Benje Hencke got the start for Green Bay and went 3.1 innings, allowing five hits, with seven earned runs. He walked five and struck out four while being tagged with the loss.

Tanner Alsteen relieved Hencke and found a little more consistency, pitching 4.2 innings, allowing six hits, and one earned run. He walked two and struck out two.

Despite five runs, it wasn’t the best performance out of Green Bay, but they’ll have a chance to redeem themselves as the Blue Ribbons are back in action on Thursday with home field advantage against the Greenville Stars.

Green Bay is 0-1 against Greenville on the year, losing the sole matchup on June 5th, 5-4.

First pitch is scheduled at Joannes Park at 7:30 p.m.
