BLUE RIBBONS SUFFER FIRST HOME LOSS OF THE SEASON

6/15/22 | Nick Witwer

After a successful weekend in Sheboygan for the fifth game challenge. The Green Bay
Blue Ribbons were looking to keep their season success going as they faced the Sheboygan A’s
on Armed Forces Night. The night was set up to be a special one with the American Legion
Sullivan-Wallen Post and Unit 11 there to present the night’s colors.

The game itself would start out pretty even as neither team would push across any runs
through the first three innings. Blue Ribbons leader in strikeouts, Tanner Alsteen, would pick up
two more Ks in the third to get out of a jam. The same could not be said for the fourth inning as
the A’s would get to Alsteen for three runs on three hits. Andrew Schroeder would
relive his Marian teammate in the fifth and get tagged for six runs of his own before coming
back with a strong performance in the sixth, facing just three batters. Sheboygan would push
across three more runs in the seventh inning as the Green Bay bats stayed quiet leading to a 12-0
finish in seven innings.

While the night wasn’t the result that the fans and team wanted, it did have its positives.
Fans saw last year’s team MVP, Trent Van Ess, swing the bat well and reach base three times
while also managing to steal a base. Fans also got to see the debut of the UW-Steven’s Point
product and Blue Ribbons rookie, Logan Van Laanen. Van Laanen showed off his arm throwing
out a runner attempting to steal second base in the sixth inning.

The Blue Ribbons will have plenty of chances to rebound this week as they have five
games in four days to end the homestand. The next game will be Alumni Night on Thursday,
June 16 th . That will be followed by Youth Night on Friday, June 17 th . Both games have a
scheduled first pitch of 7:30 PM with gates expected to open at 6:30 PM.
