The Green Bay Blue Ribbons were back at Joannes Stadium Friday night to host the
Ashwaubenon Lookouts for their annual Christmas in July game. The night was a busy one as
there were plenty of events throughout the game held for fans and even had a special appearance
from Santa Claus himself. Would the Blue Ribbons send everyone home feeling merry or would
the Lookouts find themselves on the naughty list?
The Blue Ribbons got the lead early on in this one. In the bottom of the first inning,
Bayport product, James Bornick, would reach base on two out single. The next batter up was
Liam Jones, who came through with a Christmas miracle, as Jones capitalized on a mistake from the Ashwaubenon pitcher and sent the ball to the north pole for a two-run home run. The Blue Ribbons would score another run in the third inning off of a Noah Robinson double that drove in Tyler Blum.
On the mound, it was Jared Hanson who got the start. He went a solid five innings
giving up just one run and finishing with seven strikeouts. Bret Whiffen kept the dominate
pitching performance going and finished with three scoreless innings. Andrew Schroeder would
close it out in the ninth for the save and the 3-1 victory.
The Blue Ribbons now find themselves with a little bit of momentum and are on a two-
game win streak as they enter the North Eastern Wisconsin Baseball League Classic
Tournament. Green Bay will host three games of the tournament starting with a matchup against
the Menasha Macs on Monday, the Appleton Legends on Tuesday, and the Sheboygan A’s on
Thursday. First pitch of each of those games is scheduled for 7:30 PM.
