RIBBONS WALK-OFF APPLETON

In a game that proved to be a pitcher’s duel for most of the night, the offenses finally opened thing up in extra innings, with Appleton score three in their half of the tenth inning, only to have Green Bay respond with four in the bottom of the tenth to walk off with a 6-5 victory.

Starting pitcher Benje Hencke worked six strong innings, allowing just one run while striking out ten Appleton batters, and Joe Anderson came on in relief to get the last two outs in the tenth and pick up the win.

Trailing 2-1 in the seventh, Bryan Gerbers launched his third home run of the season to tie the game at 2-2. The score remained tied until the tenth, when Appleton plated three runs. to claim a 5-2 lead. James Bornick roped a double to score Gerbers, Zachary Grossman then followed with a single, and Eason Hurd lined a ringing double to the gap to clear the bases and tie the game. After Hurd moved to third on a passed ball, Dawson Schmidt lifted a fly ball to right, deep enough for Hurd to tag and slide across home plate with the winning run, as the Blue Ribbons notched their 20th win of the year.
