LOMBARD TAKES TWO FROM GREATER GREEN BAY

BLUE RIBBONS SWEPT BY ORIOLES IN DOUBLEHEADER

Greater Green Bay dropped to 6-5 on the season as they lost both games of their doubleheader with Lombard on Saturday.

Luke Gajewski got the start on the mound in game one for the Blue Ribbons and he held the Orioles scoreless for the first six innings. Green Bay struck first with a run in the bottom of the sixth when Yuta Kudoh drew a bases loaded walk to force home Jayden Adrians with the game’s first run.

Lombard responded in the seventh however, when Bobby Grimes tripled on a ball just out of the reach of a diving Kudoh to lead off the inning. He came into score the tying run on a single by Andrew McKenna, and then shortstop Sam Hojnar took Gajewski deep for a two-out, two-run home run, which would prove to be the difference in the game as the Orioles defeated the Blue Ribbons, 3-1.

Game two was no better for the Ribbons, as Lombard took an early lead, and then broke the game open with a five-run sixth inning, highlighted by a line drive homer to right off the bat of Orioles center fielder Mike Courtney.

Greater Green Bay starter Tony Marquardt was tagged with the loss after giving up seven runs over six innings of work. Hunter Petska drove in the only runs of the game for the Blue Ribbons, delivering a two-out single in the sixth to score Tyler Blum and Eli Kramer, but it wasn’t nearly enough as the Orioles cruised to a 9-2 victory.
