RAIN HELPS RIBBONS TO VICTORY

GAME CALLED AFTER SEVEN INNINGS

The Blue Ribbons opened up NEWBL play on Monday night against the Appleton Legends, and picked up a victory with a little help from Mother Nature, when thunderstorms rolled through the area late in the game, helping Greater Green Bay to a 7-5 win.

Before the rains came, there was plenty of action on the field, as Appleton scored first with a run in the top of the second, but the Blue Ribbons responded in a big way, plating six runs in the bottom half of the inning, with all of the runs coming with two outs.

The big hit came off the bat of designated hitter Sam Kohnle, who doubled to right to drive in Yuta Kudoh and Jayden Adrians with the fifth and sixth runs of the inning.

Starting pitcher Jett Thielke went five innings, allowing just one run on three hits, and Grant Frazer came on to strike out the side in the sixth, before the Ribbons added another run when Matt Bald came in to score on a sacrifice fly by Kohnle.

The Legends got to the Green Bay bullpen in the seventh however, scoring four runs to close the gap, but when the skies opened up in the eighth, the game was halted and the Blue Ribbons were awarded the victory.

The two teams square off again on Friday night at Joannes Stadium with first pitch scheduled for 7:30 PM
