LATE RALLY COMES UP SHORT AS RIBBONS LOSE TWO ON FATHER’S DAY

The Green Bay Blue Ribbons were back home on Sunday for a double header with the
Burlington Barons. The games featured first ceremonial pitches from the dads of various Blue
Ribbons throwing to their sons, dads playing catch on the field in between games, and beautiful
clear skies, perfect conditions for some baseball.

In the day’s first game, the righty from William Penn, Bret Whiffen, would have a
modest start, giving up four runs on six hits through six innings of work and finishing with five
strikeouts. It was a good enough performance to keep the Blue Ribbons within striking distance.
However, the bats would fail to score anything after the fourth inning which saw right fielder,
Peyton Seebacher, launch his second home run of the season. Game one would finish with a final
score of Barons 5, Blue Ribbons 2.

In the second game of the day, Preble’s own Liam Jones, would get knocked around for
six runs in the first inning and ending his day early. Tanner Alsteen would make a relief
appearance starting in the second inning and pitching two solid innings before giving up six runs
of his own including a home run in back-to-back innings. Eli Frank then traded in his hot bat for
a glove and threw a hitless two innings and a third while also getting a strikeout.

At the plate for game two, the bats were much more active. Matt Perry worked his way
on base and finished with a home run, a double, two walks, and a hit by pitch. Both Sam Ott and
Blake Wallenfang would each smash a pair of doubles late to start a mini comeback. Green Bay
made it close in the end, but would still end up falling in this one by a score of 12-9. The Blue
Ribbons will now have a lengthy road trip and will not be returning to Joannes Stadium until
Thursday, June 30th.
