The Blue Ribbons opened up Class-A State Tournament play in Menasha on Monday night and came away with an 8-4 victory behind eight strong innings from starter Alec Danen and a big night at the plate from outfielder Jonah Landowski.
Green Bay grabbed an early lead with three runs in the first and another in the second, then tacked on two more in the fourth to go up 6-0.
Menasha fought back with four runs in their half of the fourth to pull within two runs, but the Ribbons added a couple of insurance runs in the eighth, on a two-run home run by Landowski for the final margin of victory.
Danen went eight innings, allowing just three earned runs while striking out ten, to earn the victory and Blake Wallenfang worked a scoreless ninth.
Landowski finished the game 2-for-4 with three runs batted in, while leadoff hitter Trent Van Ess was on base three times, with two singles and a walk.
