The Blue Ribbons got back in the win column on Thursday night, as they answered a furious ninth-inning rally by Sheboygan with a run in the tenth, to come away with a 9-8 win in extra innings in their final NEWBL Tournament game.
The Ribbons grabbed an early lead, when right fielder Lane Sobieski led off the second inning with a walk, before first baseman Liam Jones launched his second home run of the year to make it 2-0.
Green Bay added another run in the second, when second baseman Bennett Frazer singled and scored on a base hit by third baseman Adam Gutschow, then added two more in the sixth when left fielder Trent Van Ess, who would reach base in all six of his trips to the plate, ripped a double that scored both Sobieski and Jones.
The Blue Ribbons carried a 5-2 lead into the ninth, and tacked on some insurance runs with two runners scoring on a wild pitch, and another on a passed ball, to extend their lead to 8-2.
The A’s would rally for six runs in their half of the ninth to tie the game, but center fielder Tyler Blum led off the tenth with a double to center and came around to score what would prove to be the winning run.
