The Greater Green Bay Blue Ribbons improved their record to 4-0 on the year, as they battled back on multiple occasions to defeat Menasha by a score of 5-4 in 12 innings at Joannes Stadium on Thursday night.
In a game that got a late start after some thunderstorms moved through the area, Menasha got on the board first, putting up single runs in the first and the second. But the Ribbons responded with a run in the fourth, when Jonah Landowski scored on an RBI double by Trent Van Ess.
Still trailing by a run in the eighth, Landowski singled, then went from first to third when an errant pick-off throw sailed down the right field line. Several pitches later, Landowski raced home on a wild pitch, tying the game at 2-2.
Menasha scored a run in the tenth, but the Ribbons answered when Tyler Blum scored all the way from second base on a wild pitch to once again even the game at 3-3.
The score remained tied into the 12th, when Menasha plated a run to make it 4-3, but after Blum was hit by a pitch, Landowski and Van Ess each drew free passes to load the bases. With one out, first baseman Jacob Lacy stepped to the plate and deposited a 3-2 pitch into left field. Blum scored easily from third to tie the game, and Landowski raced home, avoiding a tag at the plate with an athletic slide to give the Ribbons the 5-4 victory.
Andrew Schroeder got the start and went six innings, allowing two runs, before Noah Robinson followed and tossed two scoreless frames. Alec Danen made his Ribbons debut in the ninth and worked three innings, giving up just one run, before giving way to Trevor Olmsted, who picked up the win after pitching the 12th.
The Blue Ribbons are back at home on Friday night, taking on the Little Chute Bandits at 7:30 PM, then head out on the road for a four-game series against the Lombard Orioles.
