BIG FIRST INNING PROPELS RIBBONS TO VICTORY

FOUR-RUN FIRST HELPS RIBBONS KNOCK OFF LEGENDS

The Blue Ribbons got back on the winning track on Friday night, with a 5-2 win over the Appleton Legends in NEWBL play at historic Joannes Stadium.

Greater Green Bay got things going right away in the first inning when Jacob Lacy trotted home on a bases loaded walk to Ethan Habetler, then Zach Ziesmer cleared the bases with a double to left to drive in Sam Kohnle, Matt Bald and Habetler.

Appleton tried to chip away, with single runs in the second and the fifth, but the Ribbons tacked on an insurance run when Habetler scored on a Yuta Kudoh sacrifice fly, and the pitching staff handled things from there.

Starting pitcher, left-hander Tony Marquardt, went four innings, and then right-hander Zach Watzka followed him to the mound with three shutout frames of relief to preserve the victory.
