GREATER GREEN BAY DROPS CLOSE ONE TO APPLETON
A fifth inning rally came up just short as the Blue Ribbons dropped a NEWBL game to the Appleton Legends at Joannes Stadium on Thursday night.
The Legends got the scoring started with a pair of runs in the third inning, then added two more in the top of the fourth to take an early 4-0 lead.
Greater Green Bay fought back, scoring three runs in the bottom of the fifth, keyed by a two-run double from first baseman Zach Ziesmer. Ziesmer’s double moved the tying run to third and put the go-ahead run at second with one out, but the Ribbons offense couldn’t come through with a hit in the clutch, leaving both runners stranded.
Appleton pitching shut things down from there, allowing just one Green Bay baserunner the rest of the way to preserve the victory.
