The Blue Ribbons improved their record to 4-0 on the season, defeating Kewaskum in a pair of games Friday night, taking game one in walk-off fashion by a score of 4-3, before getting a stellar pitching performance from Noah Robinson to cruise to a 7-2 win in game two.
Green Bay jumped out to an early lead in their first game of the night, as right fielder Matt Perry led off the bottom of the first with a ringing double, moved to third on an error and then stole home on the back end of a double steal.
Ethan Habetler continued his strong start to the season, lining a single to left that scored Jaden Werner, and then Habetler would eventually come around to score as well, on another double steal.
The A’s tied things up in the fourth on a three-run homer off the bat of first baseman Sean Menzel, and the game would stay tied and go into extra innings.
After missing out on a couple of golden opportunities to score in both the seventh and eighth, the Ribbons finally came through in the ninth, when catcher Blake Wallenfang drew a leadoff walk and pinch-runner Brendan Willadsen moved to second on a sac bunt from center fielder Tyler Blum. With two down, Perry stepped to the plate and ripped a single through the infield, driving in Willadsen with the game-winning run.
Game two started off in similar fashion, with the Ribbons plating a pair of runs in their half of the first inning. Griffin Summers and Eli Frank strung together back-to-back singles, and Bornick ripped a double to right to drive in Summers. One batter later, Habetler followed with a sac fly to right to score Frank and extend Green Bay’s lead to 2-0.
The Blue Ribbons padded their lead in the fifth with four consecutive hits, including singles from Bornick, Perry and Jeremy Laffoon and a double by Habetler, adding some insurance runs as they pushed their lead to 5-0.
Kewaskum finally got on the scoreboard with a run in the sixth, but that was all that Robinson would allow, as he went six innings, scattering three hits and striking out six to earn his first win of the year.
Green Bay added two more in their half of the sixth on an RBI triple from Summers, who would come in to score himself as well on a wild pitch.
The A’s added one more run in the seventh, but reliever Ben Destiche worked his way out of trouble, striking out the final batter of the game with the bases loaded to preserve the 7-2 victory.
The Blue Ribbons have a quick turnaround, heading to Illinois for a four-game series with the Addison Braves this weekend, before returning home to Joannes Stadium on Tuesday night to take on the Manitowoc Bandits.
