The Blue Ribbons got some outstanding pitching performances as they took a pair of games from Burlington on Saturday afternoon, winning game one by a score of 6-1, before shutting out the Barons in game two, squeaking out a 1-0 win.
Green Bay came out swinging in game one, scoring two runs in the first, when Trent Van Ess singled and scored on an error, and Jayden Adrians came home on an RBI single by first baseman Ethan Habelter.
They added three more runs in the second inning when Van Ess doubled to drive in catcher Tucker Kohl, and then Tyler Blum singled to bring home Van Ess to make it 5-0.
Burlington picked up an unearned run in the second, but the Ribbons added an insurance run in the sixth, when Van Ess doubled again and then scored on a Griffin Summers base hit.
Blake Wallenfang got the start for Green Bay, and earned the win after going four innings, and allowing just one unearned run. Josh Gates followed Wallenfang to the mound, and worked 2.1 scoreless innings of relief.
Game two saw Green Bay grab an early lead once again, when Daisuke Sasaki led off the game by reaching base on an error, before eventually coming around to score on an RBI groundout by Jayden Adrians.
It was a pitcher’s duel from there, with starter Liam Jones and reliever Tyler Blum combining to shut out Burlington on just three hits.
Jones worked the first four innings and picked up the victory after striking out three, before giving way to Blum. The right-hander from Marian wound up allowing just one hit over the final three innings, striking out five batters to earn the save.
The Blue Ribbons continue their road trip on Sunday, when they head to Kewaskum for another doubleheader, with first pitch for game one scheduled for noon.
