PAIR OF CATCHERS JOIN ROSTER

The Blue Ribbons added two more players to their 2021 team this week, announcing the signings of catchers Lane Sobieski and Tucker Kohl.

Sobieski, a native of Berlin, Wisconsin, starred on both the diamond and the gridiron during his high school days, and has continued to play both sports at Lakeland University. Sobieski’s 2020 baseball season was limited to just two games with the Muskies last year due to COVID, but he joined the Ribbons last summer and appeared in 32 games, guiding a young Ribbons pitching staff behind the plate.

Greater Green Bay’s Blue Ribbon Award winner for 2020, Sobieski got off to a fast start to his 2021 baseball season at Lakeland, doubling in his first at-bat, and reaching base in his first four trips to the plate, going 3-for-3 with a hit-by-pitch in a March doubleheader against Viterbo. He’ll again be looked to as a strong defensive presence behind the plate, while also bringing a power bat to the middle of the lineup.

Kohl, a freshman at UW-Stevens Point, played his high school ball at New London, where he served as both a catcher and an outfielder for the Bulldogs. He began his first season with the Pointers in 2021, teaming with former Ribbons catcher Mitchell Manns behind the dish, and he also got off to a quick start with the bat, collecting a hit and driving in a pair of runs in his collegiate debut.

The Blue Ribbons 2021 season will begin in late May, with their first Wisconsin State League game scheduled for Tuesday, June 1st, when they host the Sheboygan A’s at Joannes Stadium.
