GB TAKES SEASON SERIES FROM SHEBOYGAN WITH 7-4 WIN.

Green Bay, Wis. (Nick Witwer) – Back at Joannes for the second straight night, the Green Bay Blue Ribbons were looking to score a win that would count in both the Wisconsin State Baseball League and the Northeastern Wisconsin Baseball League as they hosted the Sheboygan A’s.

Green Bay’s offense got off to a good start as they led off the bottom of the second inning with a double and a single. With runners at second and third following a stolen base, two runs would score within the next two at bats off of a ground out and a fielder’s choice. The Blue Ribbons were able to add another run in the inning off a single from third baseman Jake Petasek. In the following inning, yet another run was tacked on off a home run from center fielder Landen Lozier to give Green Bay a 4-0 lead.

In the sixth inning, Sheboygan would claw back into the game with three runs of their own bringing the lead down to just one run. The Blue Ribbons responded immediately in the bottom of the inning scoring one run off a double from designated hitter Payton Kohnle and another run on a wild pitch. Just for good measure, one more run was added in the seventh inning off a sacrifice fly from Lozier.

That was all that was needed for Green Bay as the A’s would score just one run despite having the bases loaded in the top of the ninth giving the Blue Ribbons the 7-4 win.

At the plate for Green Bay, Landen Lozier went 2-4 with a home run, two RBIs, two runs scored, and a stolen base. Jake Petasek reached base three times going 2-3 with one RBI and a walk. Griffin Summers finished the day 1-3 with an RBI, two runs scored, and a walk.

On the mound, Ethan Plog got the win in his season debut pitching for five and two thirds of an inning giving up two runs on two hits while also striking out nine batters. Tanner Alsteen pitched three innings in relief allowing two runs and striking out four batters. Reece Piontek entered the game and was able to record the final out.

Wednesday night’s win now gives Green Bay the season series victory over Sheboygan for the second year in a row and moves them up to a 16-5 record overall. The Blue Ribbons will continue their homestand on Thursday night in a highly anticipated NEWBL matchup against the first place Menasha Macs.
