Green Bay, Wis. (Nick Witwer) – After a weekend which saw Green Bay sweep both West Allis and Sheboygan, the Blue Ribbons would be on the wrong end of a slugfest Tuesday night at Joannes Stadium losing 11-9 to the Appleton Legends.
The scoring started almost immediately in this one as both teams would leave the first inning with one run. The Blue Ribbons, took the early 2-1 lead off a single from center fielder Carter Kallies.
Appleton put up a five run fourth inning to retake the lead before the Ribbons took back the lead scoring three runs in both the fifth and sixth innings. With an 8-6 lead, Green Bay’s bullpen would allow three runs in the seventh, one in the eight, and one in the ninth. Down by three the Blue Ribbons were able to score one run in the bottom of the ninth to make it interesting but ultimately fell 11-9 making them 11-4 on the season.
At the plate Tuesday night, Eason Hurd went 3-6 with two runs scored, Griffin Summers went 2-3 with two RBIs and a walk, and Garret Foth went 1-3 with with two RBIs and a walk. On the mound, Logan Paplham got the start and struck out 4 batters. Austin Grube had 7 strikeouts in two and two third innings of relief work.
The Blue Ribbons will look to bounce back as they return to Joannes Stadium on Wednesday for Alumni Night against the Menasha Macs. First pitch is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. but we encourage fans to come early as a ceremony will be held before the game for this year’s Blue Ribbons Hall of Fame class.
