BLUE RIBBONS STRIKE EARLY BUT FALL 5-4

GREEN BAY, Wis. (Indiana Schilz) – The Green Bay Blue Ribbons shot out of the gate early, but ultimately fell in Wednesday night’s Northeastern Wisconsin Baseball League matchup against the Greenville Stars 5-4.

Blue Ribbons first baseman James Bornick struck first with a 2-RBI single, giving Green Bay a 2-0 lead for a few innings.

Greenville tied the game in the bottom of the third inning on a single by second baseman Ethan Peters. The Stars eventually took the lead in the bottom of the fourth on a fielder’s choice by Eli Retzlaff.

Right fielder Ashton Long tied up the game for the Blue Ribbons in the top of the sixth inning after blasting an RBI triple. Designated hitter Brendan Willadsen reclaimed the lead with an RBI single, making it 4-3 in favor of Green Bay.

However, that would be the last runs scored by the Blue Ribbons as Greenville went ahead in the bottom half of the inning after RBI singles by Retzlaff and center fielder Evan Mahan.

Logan Paplham started for the Blue Ribbons and went six innings, allowing seven hits and four earned runs with three walks and two strikeouts.

Austin Grube relieved Paplham and pitched two innings, allowing one hit and one walk. He struck out two.

Offensively, the Blue Ribbons had five hits and four runs. Bornick had the best offensive stat line, going 1-4 with 2 RBIs.

The Blue Ribbons are back in action on Thursday in Appleton for Northeast Wisconsin Baseball League play against the Legends. First pitch is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at USA Sports Complex.
