SHORT-HANDED BLUE RIBBONS SHUTOUT BY MENASHA

After losing three players to the Northwoods League, and with several others out sick, the Green Bay offense struggled to do much in their final tune-up before the NEWBL state qualifying tournament next week.

Menasha grabbed an early lead with a run in the first on an RBI groundout, and held that one-run lead until the sixth, when they tacked on one more for the final 2-0 margin.

Six Blue Ribbons pitchers combined to allow just those two runs on five hits, with Gavin Rusch, Connor Medvecz, Zach Lordo and Bret Whiffen each tossing a scoreless inning of relief.

The Ribbons managed just four hits of their own however, getting a double from Steven Russell, and singles from Landen Lozier, Brendan Willadsen and Garrett Foth.

Green Bay has a few days off now to regroup before starting NEWBL tourney play on Monday. The Ribbons travel to Appleton on Monday to play the Legends, then host Menasha again next Tuesday. If they win both games, they will have a chance to participate in the Wisconsin Class-A State Tournament in Marinette the following weekend.
