GREEN BAY MOVES TO 2-0

BURLINGTON, WI – The Blue Ribbons hit the road for the first time this season, and improved their record to 2-0, topping Burlington by a score of 10-7 on Friday night.

The Barons jumped out to an early lead with a three-run first inning, but the Ribbons answered back with a crooked number in the second, plating five runs to take a lead that they would never give back.

A James Bornick single, followed by a Bryson Webb double, put runners at second and third to start the inning. Bornick would score on a sac fly, and Webb would cross the plate following an error, before Griffin Summers, who walked and stole second, came around to score on a Payton Danen single to tie the game. A base hit from Colton Daniels would drive in Danen, and Daniels then scored on an error to make it 5-3.

Green Bay added to their lead with three runs in the fourth, when Trent Van Ess roped a bases loaded double that scored Brendan Willadsen, Danen and Tyler Blum, then they tacked on two more in the fifth with back-to-back doubles from Jake Petasek and Summers, with Summers scoring the team’s tenth run on a wild pitch.

Burlington chipped away at the Ribbons’ lead and brought the tying run to the plate in the final frame, but Bret Whiffen struck out the final three batters he faced to lock down the victory.

Green Bay is back in action tomorrow with two games on the schedule against West Allis. First pitch for game one against the Nationals is scheduled for 4:00 PM
